Special Note:
To encourage a full understanding of these outlooks from our readers we are now placing the graphic at the bottom of the forecast discussion article. We strongly suggest reading the detailed discussion with our forecasts so that you can understand our mentality and any underlying details we have concerning our forecast that the visual graphic may not depict well.
Discussion:
Ongoing lake-effect snow showers across the area this afternoon should cause more difficult travel conditions as the sun sets. We will also have to deal with this lightweight lake effect snow blowing around causing drifting and reduced visibility. Models have been changing a lot through the morning and afternoon leading to the greatest axis of snow being along the I-96 and I-196 corridors at 6 AM tomorrow. Snow will also begin to fall on the US-31 and I-94 corridors shortly before school closing decisions are made which precludes further confidence in these areas. Snow will continue throughout the day which could cause some travel impacts for the afternoon on Tuesday.
Wind chill values will also be in the single digit negatives tomorrow morning so it will be imperative for any kiddos at bus stops to be bundled up warm if their school remains open.
As with most lake effect snow, where the exactly the bands set up will determine where the greatest impacts will be, and with the recent changes in model guidance, we've opted to limit our forecast chances for most areas to 50%. These factors obviously inhibit our ability to accurately delineate higher probabilities for specific areas so we are forced to use a blanket of much lower probabilities over a large area.
Apologies for the rather short discussion but the model variety has kept me from mentioning any more specifics about how things will shake out tomorrow morning. Regardless, please drive safely when traveling tomorrow in the snow, blowing snow, and cold wind chills.
