A wide range of school closure chances is in place for the West Michigan Weather coverage area on Tuesday. Increased chances for widespread school closures become prevalent close to the MI/IN state line.
Mixed precipitation primarily in the form of freezing rain along and south of the I-94 corridor will lead to ice accumulations of up to a quarter of an inch, and snow along and north of the I-196 corridor will likely result in isolated to widely scattered school closures.
School closure chances have some degree of uncertainty given the timing of the snowfall and the duration of freezing rain across the area during the overnight hours.
Nonetheless, we do expect widespread slippery roads and a somewhat challenging morning commute across the region tomorrow as we deal with this wintry precipitation. Slow down and use caution while traveling. Freezing rain can create highly variable road conditions, even in localized areas.
A quick note about the remainder of the week: We do not foresee any widespread school closures as no major winter systems are expected to impact the region at this time. However, the warmer conditions will lead localized to perhaps widespread fog resulting from melting snowpack. We do not anticipate issuing School Closing Outlooks at this time but many schools will have additional chances for delays and perhaps a few closures as a result of the fog.
