Widespread school closures are expected for Friday as schools anticipate the rapidly deteriorating, potentially life-threatening, travel conditions during the Friday afternoon and evening commutes.
A Blizzard is expected to move through the region bringing impressive snowfall accumulations, blowing and drifting snow, reduced visibilities, power outages, and life-threatening, near-impossible travel to much of our Coverage Area for the weekend!
The greatest risk of school closures will be across nearly all of southwestern and western Michigan. We have opted to lead with a red-shaded "Significant Risk" (51-70% chance) for a large majority of the area extending southward from a near Ludington to near Shelby line then extending southwest to near Constatine and west to just north of New Buffalo.
The remainder of the area is highlighted by an orange-shaded "Elevated Risk" (31-50% chance) with the exception of areas southeast of a line extending from a Fawn River to Albion where a yellow-shaded "Minuscule Risk" (15-30% chance) is highlighted.
These risk areas are solely defined by the mean expected timing of the hazardous conditions from the various model suites. Changes, and likely upgrades, to this outlook are expected for our Day 1 Outlook that will be issued tomorrow evening.
To reiterate: Dangerous, near impossible, and potentially life-threatening travel is likely for much of the area beginning Friday afternoon! Make preparations now! Avoid travel if possible! Stay tuned to WMIWX on Social Media (links at the bottom and top of the page) or on this site here.
